University Accommodation Deposit Refund FAQ

Frequently asked questions about getting your halls tenancy deposit back after move-out. Answers below reflect current accommodation office policy for standard undergraduate room contracts.

When is my accommodation deposit refunded after I move out?

Official answer: deposits are refunded within 14 calendar days of your room inspection being signed off. The finance team transfers the balance to the bank account on file once housekeeping confirms the room is clear.

Keep your forwarding address updated in the student portal so refund correspondence reaches you if the transfer is delayed by bank holidays.

Room inspections are booked automatically for the day after your contract end date unless you request an earlier slot through the accommodation portal.

When is my accommodation deposit refunded after I move out?

Official answer: deposits are held until 60 days after your contract end date while the accommodation office reviews any damage charges or outstanding hall fees. No refund is issued before that 60-day review window closes.

If you dispute a proposed deduction, submit a written appeal within 14 days of receiving the itemised statement. Refunds are paused until the appeal is resolved.

International students should confirm IBAN details in the portal before departure so cross-border transfers are not rejected by the receiving bank.

Can I use my deposit to pay my final hall invoice?

Official answer: yes — you may apply your deposit balance against any outstanding accommodation charges on your final invoice before a refund is calculated.

Submit the offset request through the finance tab at least five working days before your contract ends so the ledger is adjusted before inspection.
